Our baby is ONE! I love a good theme so we decided to celebrate with a hole in ONE golf birthday par-tee.
Note: we were as careful as possible with covid precautions. We only had a small group of close family and friends. And we hosted our party at an outdoor pavilion that fits 100 people. Guests wore masks And food was able to be served with minimal contact (individual chip bags, water bottles, cupcakes instead of cake, etc).
Golf Theme Party Details
Golf Decorations
I placed a bunch of golf tees and golf balls in clear glasses to use as center pieces and weights on the food table. I originally planned to spread tees randomly on the table. But because our party was at an outdoor beach pavilion on a very windy day, that wasn’t going to happen.
I also had golf paper plates (80 pack for $15.99) from Amazon.
And one of my favorite details was the ONE banner on Aaron’s high chair. My sister sewed it – including all of the little gray circles to turn the O in one into a golf ball. (You can see it in the pictures below from his smash cake).
We also dressed to theme, of course! Aaron wore a polo onesie, argyle sweater vest that I found on Poshmark, and a little golf hat. Jon and I both wore polos / golf shirts (aka Jon is almost always dressed to Aaron’s birthday party theme).

Cake
We ordered our pull apart cake (cupcake cake) from Publix. I loved the idea of a cupcake cake because we were trying to be as covid-concious as possible. I showed the baker some ideas I had saved on Pinterest and she completely exceeded my expectations. Also, the picture doesn’t do it justice – this cake was huge. Like didn’t fit in a shopping cart huge.
We also ordered a smash cake to match. And again way cuter than I expected. I thought it would be green and say “hole in one” but its a mini version of the big cake.
Cake Smash
What’s a first birthday party without a cake smash? This is such a fun little first birthday tradition. Especially for a kid who hasn’t had many sweets before their birthday. You just never know how they’ll react their very own cake.
Aaron had the cutest reactions! We put the cake in front of him and sang happy birthday and he immediately started touching the cake. He then really started to dig his hangs into it and squeeze the cake and frosting in his hands. He got a little upset with me when I took away the candles (didn’t want him eating those). But then was a happy camper again when he realized how yummy sugary frosting is. Once his hands were covered in green frosting, he took the whole cake and flipped it upside down. He spread the frosting from his hands on the cardboard and then picked it up and licked the cardboard.
We truly had the best time celebrating Aaron’s hole in one golf birthday par-tee!
