Five Months With Aaron

August 3, 2020

I know I say this every month but I seriously cannot believe how fast time is flying. I love taking (and looking back on) these monthly photos (and the 1 second everyday videos I share on instagram) to see how much Aaron grows and changes.

His hair is growing and he is just such a handsome little boy! I think its starting to get a little darker too. I still can’t believe we have a little blondie with blue eyes!

Aaron is super curious! He always turns to look at whoever is talking and his eyes follow his dad around the house. And he recently started grabbing and scratching things to see what they feel like. He also seems interested in the books we read to him. He looks at the pictures and kinda tries to help us turn the pages.

Our little man rolled over for the first time this month. We were FaceTiming with my sister and she was asking him about his day. She asked “did you do tummy time?” And he immediately rolled onto his side, which he’d already done a million times. But this time he had this look of determination on his face. I yelled for Jon to come watch and as soon as he was in the room, Aaron rolled himself the rest of the way onto his tummy. It’s like he knew exactly what my sister was saying and wanted to show her tummy time.

We’ve been practicing with him a lot more and just this week he’s really starting to get the hang of rolling over.

This month we (re)introduced formula. Aaron was in the NICU when he was born and started with formula in the hospital – first through a feeding tube and then in bottles until my milk came in. Once we came home from the hospital I was exclusively breastfeeding him. We transitioned to a mix of nursing and bottles of breast milk when I went back to work. But we quickly realized I wasn’t keeping up with his appetite. We started the transition to supplementing with formula by adding an ounce in each bottle. Now I would say half his bottles are formula and the other half is breastmilk that I pump at work. I’m still nursing in the morning and if he wakes up in the middle of the night. I was trying to just nurse on my days off but feel better knowing how much he’s eating with bottles.

I just love seeing him change and grow and learn. Although I wouldn’t mind if he unlearned the happy screaming.

5 months is SUCH fun age! They start to play but they’re not quite mobile enough to run away yet. Enjoy it! He’s a cutie!

He is so adorable! It’s so great that you document watching him grow every month. It so quickly merges together and can be difficult to remember what was happening when. Good job, Mama!
