We threw a little gender reveal party to find out if Baby Stanton is a boy or girl. Even though we originally did not plan on having a gender reveal – I know they’re very trendy and somewhat controversial these days.
We decided to do early genetic testing / blood work at 10 weeks. (I also had some extra tests done specific for Ashkenazi Jews). And through these blood tests they are able to find out baby’s gender very early. My doctor’s office called me about a week later with the results – thankfully everything came back negative. And then she asked if I wanted to know the baby’s gender. And of course I wanted to know but felt bad finding out before Jon. I said I would 3-way call back with Jon.
But while I was waiting for Jon, I started coming up with a bunch of different ideas. I could find out over the phone and set up a gender reveal for him – he’s a golfer and we had previously thought about a golf ball gender reveal. Or we could find out together and then do a gender reveal for our parents. We decided it would be way more fun to do a gender reveal party where we found out at the same time and with our people. Even if it meant waiting another week to find out.
My doctor’s office called my friend Amanda to share the news with her. Her and her boyfriend Ryan were the first people we shared the pregnancy news with when we traveled to South Carolina together in July. And she did such a great job keeping our secret so we knew she could be trusted with this big secret as well.
Unfortunately she isn’t local and gender reveal golf balls are sold with both blue and pink together. She ordered 2 packs to be delivered to herself and then shipped the correct ones down to us. (And nicely included another package that wasn’t to be opened til after the reveal – baby’s first outfits!)
