One Night in Savannah

November 12, 2019

A few months ago we took a long weekend for 4th of July and took a road trip up to Myrtle Beach. We decided to split up our drive, made a few stops along the way and spent a night in Savannah, GA. I hadn’t been since my college spring trip break 8 years ago. And we always joke that if we went somewhere before we met or didn’t go together then it doesn’t count.

Where We Stayed

For our one night stay in Savannah, we booked a room at the Kimpton Brice Hotel. Since this part of our trip was really just a pit stop, most of our time is this city would be spent at the hotel. We wanted to stay somewhere close to the riverfront and within walking to distance to be able to explore downtown without having to worry about driving and finding parking.

I’m such a fun of Kimpton brand hotels. Besides just being aesthetically pleasing. (I’m secretly hoping their beautiful interior designs will rub off on me one day). They’re also super hospitable – we had a great experience when we stayed at the Kimpton Monaco in Salt Lake City on our honeymoon.

PS this hotel is super dog friendly. We seemed to be the only people at the hotel not traveling with a pup.

How gorgeous is this courtyard? Lots of cozy hangout spots under the string lights. Still not sure if it looks better in the daytime or at night.

Where We Ate

When I say our trip to Savannah was short, I mean short. We only had one meal there. Breakfast.

I spent more time than I’d like to admit researching breakfasts spots, reading menus. And in the end we ate breakfast at Pacci, the restaurant inside our hotel. We wanted to have an early start to the day to have time to explore and most restaurants opened later than I’d like.

A few of the restaurants I had my eye on and would love to check out next time we visit are Maple Street Biscuit Company (closed on Sundays) and The Collins Quarter.

Dress, belt, shoes were all thrift store finds and my sunglasses were purchased at a random store on Hollywood beach when I forgot to pack mine.

  • exploring Rainbow Row in Savannah

I had some of our walk mapped out ahead of time. I really wanted to see Rainbow Row in both Savannah and Charleston that day. And then we just wandered. Walked through a bunch of the squares, saw plenty of historic houses and buildings.

The historic rainbow row in Savannah is 3 houses next to each other with pink, turquoise and blue shutters. Definitely different than rainbow row in Charleston and worth it to check out both.

And just a head’s up so you don’t make the same mistake we did – the bench from Forrest Gump is no longer in Chippewa Square. There square is there and there are plenty of benches (and some nice shady trees to hangout under). The actual bus stop bench from the movie now lives in a museum.
