To Read
- Its been a few years since I’ve been involved in anything J.Crew (besides shopping there). I found this article written by J.Crew’s new CEO Jim Brett. He talks about retail/shopping habits in history and what’s to come in the future. We hear about stores closing all the time and think retail is dying and Amazon and cheap, fast fashion will be the only things to survive. I love how he mentions the importance of human connection, even in the world of shopping.
To Watch
- Since I have been stuck in bed recovering from strep throat most of this week, I’ve had quite a bit of time to catch up on Netflix. David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction is truly a gift to the world. From Obama to Tina Fey to Jay-Z, every episode is an interview that is a beautiful biography. You laugh, you cry, you feel inspired.
- I didn’t wake up in the middle of the night to watch the royal wedding but I am enjoying the highlights, pictures, and special moments that I’ve seen. Of course my favorite was the video of some Kappas chanting Oh Pat to Meghan as her carriage rode by. Some of my sorority sisters chanting this at my wedding so its fun to have a connection (hello, sisters!) to a princess!
To Eat
Out – The new RH opened in West Palm a few months ago and, yes, its more than just a furniture store. The fourth floor is a rooftop restaurant filled with ladies who lunch. My entire meal was basically just bread and cheese, including the truffle grilled cheese pictured above and delice de bourgogne cheese (might’ve just googled the menu to find that one) which was by far my favorite. Its similar to brie and comes with bread, pecans, and their own strawberry preserves. I plan on recreating this at home with a trip to Trader Joe’s.
In – We’re trying to eat more meals at home and I’m trying to learn how to cook. I generally like salmon at restaurants but don’t usually like it when I make it myself. Our friend Todd came over and taught me this easy and delicious salmon recipe:
- season the salmon with salt, pepper, and parsley and then brush on honey mustard sauce, bake at 450 for 20 mins and DONE!
- cook some chopped garlic in butter, add frozen cauliflower rice, add frozen veggies (peas and carrots this time) and then when its almost done mix in some parmesan.
To Buy
It wouldn’t be a holiday weekend without some amazing sales. Even though I’m looking for sales on things like lawn mowers, grills, and tv’s, I can’t help but share some deals on clothes!
J.Crew – 40% off everything, some categories 50% off. Its the perfect time to buy things that rarely get marked down, like jeans!
Madewell – 20% off dresses. I pretty much wear a Madewell dress to work daily and I’m super into this white one for summer.
LOFT – 40% off everything with code LONGWKND
Ann Taylor – 40% off with code SOREADY
GAP – up to 50% off + extra 20% off + free shipping with code PARTY
Nordstrom is having their half yearly sale – with a bunch of styles up to 40% off.
Nordstrom Rack – one of my all time favorite sales that can be expected holiday weekends is the Clear The Rack sale. Markdown items get an extra discount and its crazy to see how much you save from the original price. This sale is in store and online, and if you spend $100+ online, you get free shipping.
Net-A-Porter just started their biannual sale. And while some items with never be in my budget (like this beautiful Saint Laurent dress – on sale for $10,200), its a great time to find deals on Sam Edelman shoes.
